A Massachusetts man was hospitalized because a pea plant was growing in his lung.
Ron Sveden, an emphysema patient, went to see his doctors for X-rays. His health was deteriorating, and doctors found a growth in his lung. Instead of cancer, the doctors determined the growth to actually be a half inch long pea plant growing in his lung. Sveden had eaten peas after having surgery, and one of the peas must have gone down his windpipe instead of his esophagus, and started growing in his lung.
"Whether this would have gone full-term and I'd be working for the Jolly Green Giant, I don't know. I think the thing that finally dawned on me is that it wasn't the cancer."
